SCREENING / 28th SEPTEMBER – 3rd OCTOBER 20.00-23.00 / ROTERMANNI KVARTAL
Every year the Plektrum Festival brings forth new video art pieces based on the artist and the theme. This year an official call was sent out to Estonian video and animation artists and international networks. The content of the four video programs originates from the festival’s key topic of 2009 “Do You Live in a Reality?” and it’s source “Where is Virtuality?”.
Program 1: Argentinelee
Argentinelee was born in Korea in 1975, lives and works in Paris. She works with video, sound, installation and performance. She organizes her exhibitions so as to provoke audience participation. Her work harmonizes performance, situations and concepts. In her works the artist questions the identity of the individual who is standing on the boundary between technology and humanism and expresses the unstable feeling of chaos and wandering.
Programm 2: manic.fiction
Curator Lucas Czjzek has put together a collection of videos produced by artists of the sonance.artistic.network in Vienna, Austria titled “Manic.fiction – re.sonance.dvd.007″. “I think people in wealthy parts of the world are living within a manic fiction, broadcasting that production isthe only worthy thing to do. It will force people to forget about the value of inactivity and the opportunity of downtime. Manic.fiction approaches the need to reduce speed and rethink time,” says producer Simon B. Haefele.
Program 3: Young Anima
A diverse selection of the works of animation and scenography students offers classical narrative approaches, interesting pictorial language, social criticism and travesty. Techniques from pixilation, puppet and photo films to 3D and flash animation.
Program 4: Cinema class meets Plektrum
It is now possible to see on the big screen the works that were created during a joint three day video art and VJ workshop of Vanalinna Hariduskolleegium and Plektrum experts. Everything that falls under the category “interesting soundscapes” – modern rhythms, runic songs and improvisation – have inspired the authors to create their first music videos. Travel stories, deep minimalism, introspective realizations and humorous surreal style of directing – this is an appropriate short introduction to the young author’s video program.
