Odessa POP
CLUB NIGHT / 26th SEPTEMBER 22.00-04.00 / VON KRAHL
The concert series Odessa POP began in 2006 and introduces to the Estonian audience foreign and local bands and artists that could be characterized as “little pop music” – music that has been created outside the precepts of the “big music industry” and usually released by independent record companies. The bands and musicians playing at Odessa Pop might fall under one of the categories – pop, indie-pop, indie-rock, synth-pop, alt.country, folk-pop, freak folk, art-pop, lo-fi, twee-pop, indie-tronica, etc.
St Christopher (UK)
St Christopher, a legend in the indie-pop circles, was formed in 1984 in York, UK by singer and songwriter Glenn Melia, drummer Ian Kay and bass player Nic Robson. In 1988-90 four singles and a mini-LP “Bacharach” were released under the noted UK label Sarah Records. The first two singles, among them their biggest hit “All of a Tremble” reached high positions in the UK indie-charts. In the 90s three albums were released under the record label Vinyl Japan. St Christopher’s latest album “Golden Blue”, released in 2001 under Parasol has been regarded by music critics as their best. Compared to the bright guitars and melancholic pop from their earlier period the later St Christopher is a much more complex musical kaleidoscope – a mixture of Suede-like glam with intensive guitars, the darkness of Echo & The Bunnimen and David Bowie from the time of “Heroes”, also 70s prog-pop and 80s British psychedelia. In 2007 St Christopher began touring and writing new material again. A successful US tour and a performance at the indie festival “Summershine” in California show a continuing interest in them. In 2007 a compilation album “Lost at Sea – The Sarah Recordings” of the band’s older material was released under a Peruvian label Plastilina. At the concert in Tallinn you will definitely hear material from the band’s classic vinyl singles as well as their latest music.

Chungin & The Strap-On Faggots (EST)
Chungin & The Strap-on Faggots, or singer Chungin (Indrek Spungin), guitarists Erik and Kyberkary, bass player U.R.B. and drummer Mr. J, is an Estonian band that grew out of the turn-of-the-century punk scene. They don’t consider punk an antagonism of black and white but a synthesis of different sides of pop culture. The band was formed as a quartet in August 2004, in 2006 it was already a quintet and during the next years they developed their distinct style. Today Chungin & The-Strap-On Faggots and their insanely charismatic lead singer have gotten a lot of attention at club concerts and festivals as a burbly live band that combines British punk, The Jam, glam-rock, synth-pop with a dose of German. Their low-budget videos have even been shown on MTV. Chungin & The-Strap-On Faggots long-awaited debut album will be released in September, their Von Krahl concert will definitely feature songs from that album.
Tallinn Daggers (EST)
Tallinn Daggers is a new artist who works with electro pop, new wave and rave, also elements of goth music. Ardo Kivi (ex-Pedigree) combines vocals and backgrounds, on stage he is accompanied by drummer Joosep Volk (ex-Pia Fraus, Under Marie) and sometimes guest performers. According to themselves they aim to use different sounds and mix together something striking from pop melodies and catching beats. Their biggest performances so far have been this summer in Robotaanika Park, Pedassaar and upcoming lives at the Pedigree new album launch concerts.
The best local girl-power DJs Glorius Ingrido, Birgit Von Bi and Penny Lane in the bar.
